Liga MX: Why did América and Toluca move up their Matchday 2 matches?

Liga MX returned to action with the 2025 Apertura Tournament, whose Matchday 2 will begin midweek with two matches: América vs. Tijuana and Santos vs. Toluca . Both matches will be played on Wednesday, July 16 at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes and Estadio Corona, respectively. The rest of the matchday will begin on Friday, July 18.

América and Toluca moved up their commitments due to their participation in the duel for the 2025 Campeón de Campeones title , which will be held on Sunday, July 20 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. This match will crown the overall champion for the 2024-25 season.

In their tournament debut , Toluca opened with a 3-1 victory over Necaxa at the Estadio Nemesio Diez, while América drew 1-1 against Juárez under the direction of André Jardine.
