Luis Abinader is proposed as president of the PRM.
The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza , proposed this Monday that the current President of the Republic, Luis Abinader , also assume the presidency of the Modern Revolutionary Party ( PRM ) as a way to consolidate political leadership with a view to the electoral challenges of 2028.
During a press conference, Paliza clarified that this was a personal suggestion and not a decision made by the party's governing bodies .
However, he considered Abinader's figure to represent a strength for the ruling party and would be a key factor in maintaining internal cohesion and preparation for the upcoming elections.
He emphasized that it is a personal suggestion due to the strength of his leadership and all the work the party has to do with 2028.
Paliza emphasized that the PRM needs a strong and harmonious leadership structure to support any future political project .
Independent candidatesHe noted that the internal process to elect new party officials , which is scheduled for next year , has not yet begun, and he asked for caution from leaders aspiring to positions within the PRM .
He also addressed the debate on independent candidates and the need to amend the electoral law to establish clear and fair rules .
He supported the proposal presented by the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to the National Congress , highlighting the importance of both parties and independent candidates being governed by transparent regulations .
Finally, the senior official emphasized the fundamental role that political parties play in Dominican democracy , as they are an integral part of the country's institutional design .
