70,000 government employees adopt new working hours

Public Administration Minister Sigmund Freund reported this Tuesday that nearly 70,000 public employees have adopted the new working hours established by the government, with the aim of improving traffic problems in Santo Domingo and the National District.
The official stated that 95% of public institutions have been impacted by this measure, according to the latest survey conducted by the MAP on Friday, July 18 .
"The latest count conducted on Friday should be close to 95% of institutions. We've impacted around 70,000 public servants in Greater Santo Domingo who, in one way or another, have already changed their start and end times in the various ways we established," he said.
On June 17, the Ministry of Public Administration (MAP) issued Circular 008962, which formalizes the staggered work schedules in the public sector as part of the "RD se Mueve" strategy.
This provision, which came into effect on Tuesday, July 1, established that 70% of public sector personnel must work from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., while 30% may maintain their regular hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) .
Diario Libre contacted several public institutions to verify the implementation of the government measure . Of the 10 entities consulted , only three confirmed they were operating under the new system.
This newspaper called one service office, one national institute, two general directorates, and six ministries. In the survey, only representatives from the Environment, Energy and Mines, and Youth departments responded that they work from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
When asked about the license renewal process, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) explained via telephone that it operates from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Megacentro GOB Point stated that it operates from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with extended hours (the extended hours of the new scheme are from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., divided into two shifts).
On the other hand, the General Directorate of Passports indicated that they deliver documents until 7:00 p.m., but their hours for receiving documents or entering data are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For its part, the General Directorate of Internal Revenue confirmed that it is operating under the previous modality.
Representatives interviewed during this telephone survey from the Ministries of Finance, Tourism, and Foreign Affairs indicated that they are maintaining the 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. schedule .
On July 14, Diario Libre requested a list of the institutions operating under the new system from the MAP, but did not receive a timely response before the publication of this article.
