Mexican exports to the US rebound in May despite Donald Trump's tariffs.
CDMX.- Despite the sharp drop in Mexican exports to the United States last April and President Donald Trump 's tariff policy , exports recovered in May , growing by 9.5%, according to the U.S. trade office.
With this, Mexico remains the leading trading partner of its northern neighbor , in addition to being, by far, the main supplier to the U.S. economy .
Mexican exports to the United States reached $46.3 billion, while imports from Mexico totaled $28.2 billion.
In total, in May they traded 74.5 billion dollars, which meant that Mexico traded with the United States 16.2% of the total amount traded by the American Union .
Mexico surpasses China, Taiwan, and Canada in exports to the U.S.Canada came in second, accounting for 12.5% of the total US economy's trade. China came in third, accounting for only 5.9%.
In fourth place on the list of the main trading partners of the United States is Taiwan , followed by Germany , Japan , Vietnam , South Korea , Ireland and India .
The U.S. Census Bureau reported that the largest trade deficits are with Mexico at $18.2 billion, followed by Vietnam at $14.7 billion, and China at $13.9 billion.
For the U.S. government, the deficit puts them at a disadvantage, so the trade policy they are promoting aims to reverse this situation by reducing imports and promoting greater consumption of U.S. manufactured goods.
