OAXACA, Oaxaca (apro).- The Guinness World Record for the world's largest tlayuda, boasted by the Salomón Jara Cruz administration, has become a laughingstock on social media, where the "great feat" was ridiculed with memes.

The world's largest tlayuda was transformed into a line of 1,200 tortillas, equivalent to a length of 350 meters. The Morena government boasted that it was the "largest in the world, positioning Oaxaca as a global cultural and gastronomic landmark."

This event was held as part of the Expo Feria "From the Comal to the World: The Tlayuda" and brought together 120 women from the municipality of San Antonio de la Cal in the Cho Ndobá Spring Oaxacan Park to prepare this dish, a symbol of the state, using native corn.

Well, the supposed giant #TLAYUDA turned out to be a FAKE. Several tlayudas to simulate ONE... I was just wasting my time. These are the "big ideas"... Governor @salomonj should ask for his resignations because these things are pure shame #Oaxaca pic.twitter.com/HEzUWONeav

They also noted that this effort surpassed the previous record of 500 tlayudas formed in a line.

However, when the image of the 1,200 tlayudas spread, mockery flooded the news chats with memes.

In one image, a comal with several memelas (small pans) is seen, and they claim it's the world's largest memela; in another, tlayudas are seen with the message "The world's largest raidolito" (small pans); in another, buckets and piles of eggs are seen, as well as laying hens with the message "The world's largest chicken egg...And behind them, the world's largest chicken"; in another, Oaxacan tamales are seen in banana leaves, and they joke that it's "Guinness World Record, the world's largest tamale."

The Oaxacans and their ingenuity know no bounds, as regards the Guinness World Record for “The World’s Largest Tlayuda.”

Another image shows an oyster stand with the message: “And with you!! The largest oyster in the world” #oaxaca #tradition #humor”; there is also an image with rows of empty chairs and the message “the largest chair in the world is on the Isthmus.”

To justify this, the Salomón Jara government stated that women producers are a fundamental part of the ancestral culinary tradition, which is recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, but, above all, one of the most diverse and rich on the planet.

"Oaxacan cuisine is synonymous with identity, community, history, and future. Today, our culinary tradition extends beyond our borders, making the tlayuda a living symbol of the knowledge and flavors of our land," he stated.

Meanwhile, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development (Sedeco), Raúl Ruiz Robles, noted that this dish holds a very special place, because it is not only a symbol of identity, but also a driving force of economic development for hundreds of families who preserve traditions and strengthen the regional economy.

"Our culinary heritage not only nourishes the soul and body, it also promotes employment, commerce, and well-being. Focusing on the quality, innovation, and marketing of traditional products is key to continuing to position Oaxaca globally," he emphasized.
