Ximena Arias-Cristóbal faces deportation from the U.S. after a false traffic violation.

A 19-year-old Mexican student named Ximena Arias-Cristóbal was detained in the United States by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents for an alleged traffic violation while driving on the streets of Dalton, Georgia.

However, despite the charges being dropped, authorities are keeping her in custody pending possible deportation. A video showing the exact moment of her arrest is circulating on social media.

Ximena Arias-Cristóbal is a Mexican student who has lived in the United States since she was 4 years old. She was driving a dark gray Dodge pickup truck on her way to the University of Georgia. At that moment, a Dalton police officer pulled her over, allegedly for making an illegal turn.

According to reports, the young woman was unable to produce her driver's license and was therefore not recognized as a U.S. citizen, so the police officer proceeded with the arrest.

However, the Dalton Police Department issued a statement stating that charges against Ximena Arias-Cristóbal have been dropped. Authorities confirmed the arrest was a mistake and that they stopped the wrong driver.

“The charges against Ximena Arias-Cristóbal for improper turn and driving without a valid driver's license were dismissed. After reviewing the dashcam video from the traffic stop, it was determined that Ms. Arias-Cristóbal's vehicle appeared similar to the offending vehicle, but was not the one that made the improper turn, ” they reported.

However, US media outlets confirm that the Mexican woman remains detained by ICE , facing possible deportation. Her father, José Francisco Arias-Tovar, could also receive the same sanction after having driven over the speed limit two weeks earlier.

Although the legal team and the community are seeking their release, the Department of Homeland Security assures that the family could return to Mexico.
