The city of Khartoum , once Sudan 's vibrant capital located at the confluence of the Blue and White Niles, has been systematically destroyed and emptied after two years of brutal civil war.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF paramilitary forces has left indelible scars on the city's urban and cultural fabric. Recent images show vast areas burned and damaged by artillery, from residential neighborhoods to iconic buildings such as the presidential palace, hospitals, schools, and museums.
Mass looting of the National Museum is reported, with the loss of thousands of ancient artifacts. Even electrical cables were ripped from the buildings. The destruction of Khartoum's cultural heritage represents an irreparable loss for Sudan and the world, a tragic testament to the human and cultural cost of war.
