Why are Supersmart offers on postal savings books so convenient?

Inflation and the volatility of financial markets are pushing more and more people to look for safe solutions to make their savings grow. Supersmart offers on the postal savings book represent one of the most considered options.
“Supersmart deposits,” as they are now called, allow you to put money aside for a period decided in advance with the possibility of obtaining higher interest rates than those offered by the simple Smart booklet.
Supersmart May offers on postal savings booksLeaving your money sitting in a postal savings account is not advantageous. The gross annual interest rate of the latter, in fact, is very low, equal to 0.001%. To receive a better return, it would be advisable to evaluate solutions such as " Supersmart deposits ". There are five offers to choose from in this month of May 2025, exactly:
- Supersmart Deposit Renew;
- Supersmart Premium Deposit;
- Supersmart Open Deposit;
- Supersmart Young Deposit;
- Supersmart Pension Deposit.
Among the best Supersmart offers for May is the Deposito Rinnova reserved for those who have a Smart savings booklet. The latter can be registered to a single person or to several people with separate signatures, i.e. it can be used by each without the need for reciprocal authorization.
Furthermore, to activate this offer you must have had one or more deposits from 366-day and/or 540-day Supersmart Premium offers/deposits, which expired on or after 1 April 2025.
The money coming from the old expired deposits can also be used in part by activating the new Supersmart Rinnova deposit. In this case only the part set aside will be rewarded with a higher interest than normal.
The minimum for each new deposit will be 500 euros to which you can only add sums in multiples of 50 euros while the overall maximum that can be kept tied up in the same booklet will be 3 million euros.
The main features are that:
- each new Renew deposit lasts 540 days and offers a gross annual yield at maturity of 1.75%;
- deposits begin on the day they are activated and end after 540 days unless the customer decides to close them earlier but loses the increased interest;
- You can activate up to 10 savings per day but you can have a maximum of 60 active savings across all Supersmart versions.
Performance example:
Supersmart Premium DepositLet's imagine that we set aside 5,000 euros in the Supersmart Rinnova offer that lasts 540 days. At the end of this period, as shown by the Poste calculator, we will obtain interest of 95.79 euros gross of stamp duty which is determined by applying the current tax withholding.
Among the savings booklet offers for May there is also one called “ Supersmart Premium deposit ” reserved for adults in possession of a Smart booklet that can be registered or jointly registered with separate signatures. This offer, however, is dedicated only to those who bring new liquidity by June 12 (except early closure) directly to the Smart booklet or to postal savings books or BancoPosta current accounts registered to themselves via:
- bank transfer;
- pension or salary credit;
- payment of a cashier's check or bank check.
However, the new liquidity paid into BancoPosta current accounts or savings books can only be transferred to the Smart booklet (to activate this deposit) by means of a transfer. If withdrawals are made, these will then take away the value of the new liquidity, which could lead to the loss of the possibility of setting aside.
As for the gross annual yield at maturity, it will be 2% at the end of 366 days . The minimum amount that can be deposited each time is 500 euros up to a maximum of 3 million euros. The minimum number of daily provisions will be 10 while the maximum number of provisions that can be had in total is 60.
An example of performance:
Supersmart Open DepotLet's imagine that we always set aside the sum of 5,000 euros but in the Supersmart Premium offer. The duration of the latter is 366 days and at the end of this period we will obtain 74.20 euros of net interest determined by applying the current tax withholding. However, they are gross of stamp duty as can be seen from the Poste Italiane calculator.
Poste Italiane has announced that from 15 April 2025, the activation of all offers such as the Supersmart Open deposit is only permitted to adults who have a single or jointly held Smart booklet with separate signatures.
The duration of the Open offer is 360 days and can be subscribed starting from 500 euros and multiples of that amount. It can obviously be deactivated at any time but in that case the base rate is applied which is 0.001% instead of 1.50% at the end of the indicated period.
If you want to activate or deactivate a provision:
- you can go to the post office;
- if you also have online access from the Poste Italiane website, the Poste Italiane app and the BancoPosta app.
Partial deactivation will also be possible but:
- the minimum will be 50 euros always in multiples of 50;
- you will have to leave at least 500 euros set aside otherwise everything will be deactivated.
As for withdrawals, they can be made on free amounts or on money not set aside. The deposited money, on the other hand, can be recovered only upon maturity or if the set aside is deactivated beforehand.
Here's an example:
How the Young Deposit WorksLet's suppose we set aside 5,000 euros in the Supersmart Open offer that lasts 360 days. At the end of this period of time, as can be seen from the Poste Italiane calculator, we will obtain 54.74 euros of net interest determined by applying the current tax withholding. They will be gross of stamp duty.
The Supersmart Young offer, as the name suggests, is reserved only for those between 18 and 35 years of age. Thanks to it, it is possible to set aside a sum of money starting from a minimum of 500 euros with the possibility of increasing this amount by multiples of 50 euros. The interests that then accrue are 2% gross per year at the expiry of 180 days .
However, free amounts, i.e. those that are not subject to set-aside and the latter deactivated in advance, are remunerated at the basic rate of the Smart booklet.
The advantages of opting for this offer as well as the others are:
- zero activation and deactivation costs except for tax charges;
- the possibility of enjoying the deposit account and the Smart booklet;
- the possibility of releasing the set aside sums whenever you want;
- the ability to monitor your savings.
To activate the Young offer you obviously need to have a single or joint Smart booklet with separate signatures and access it from the official Poste Italiane website or from the app. The following steps are:
- select Supersmart Young depot;
- open a Smart booklet if you don't have one;
- activate the deposit starting from a minimum of 500 euros.
To sign up, you can also go to a post office, bringing your identity card or a valid identity document and your tax code.
Here's an example:
Supersmart Pension DepositLet's suppose we invest 5,000 euros in the Supersmart Young offer that lasts 180 days. At the end of this period, as can be seen from the Poste calculator, we will obtain 36.49 euros of net interest determined by applying the current tax withholding. They will be gross of stamp duty.
Among the May offers on the savings booklet there is also the Supersmart Pension that can be activated by adults who hold a single or jointly held Smart booklet with separate signatures.
However, a pension paid by INPS must have been credited to it at least once or a request for crediting a pension also paid by INPS must have been submitted to Poste Italiane. In this case, the accruals can be activated starting from the same day of the request.
The minimum amount that can be set aside, as for other offers, will be 500 euros, while the maximum amount will be 3 million euros. The offer will last 364 days and the interest rate will be 2% gross per annum.
Here is an example of performance:
Let's suppose we set aside 5,000 euros in the Supersmart Pension offer that lasts 364 days. At the end of this period, we will obtain 73.80 euros of net interest determined by applying the current tax withholding as shown by the Poste calculator. However, this amount is gross of stamp duty.
