Lecco, May 10, 2025 – The people of Lecco are the Stakhanovs of Italy . In fact, Lecco is the province where people work the most . On average, the people of Lecco work almost 265 days a year . This is revealed by research by the Research Office of Cgia di Mestre , the General Confederation of Italian Crafts.
In the North people work more, in the South lessAccording to the analysis, in the North people work an average of 255 days a year, in the South 228 : in other words, employees in Northern Italy work 27 more days a year than their colleagues in the South. The workers with the highest average number of days worked during 2023 were in the province of Lecco , with an average of 264.9 working days , equal to almost 9 months of work, including weekends and holidays. They are followed by private employees in Biella with 264.3 working days, Vicenza with 263.5, Lodi with 263.3, Padua with 263.1, Monza-Brianza with 263, Treviso with 262.7 and Bergamo with 262.6. The provinces where people work the least are Foggia with 213.5 days, Trapani with 213.3, Rimini with 212.5, Nuoro with 205.2 and Vibo Valentia with 193.3 days. This means that people from Lecco worked 71 days more than their colleagues from Vibo Valentia, that is, 2 whole months and 10 days more. The Italian average was 246.1 days .
The reason for the differenceAccording to the experts of the Cgia, however, the differences between the north and the south are not due to the fact that in the north there are tireless heroes of work and in the south instead lazy. "At the origin of these data there are at least two closely related reasons - they explain -. The first is due to a widespread underground economy that in the southern regions has a size not found in the rest of the country and that, statistically, does not allow to count the hours worked irregularly. The second is attributable to a labor market that in the South is characterized by a lot of precariousness , by a widespread presence of involuntary part-time, especially in services, by many seasonal workers employed in the hospitality and agricultural sectors, which significantly lower the average of hours worked". It would therefore be a question of "ghost" working days, undeclared, and precisely of precarious, non-continuous jobs.
The highest and lowest salariesIn areas where the hours worked are higher , productivity is also higher and consequently salaries are heavier . In the north, the average daily wage in 2023 was 104 euros gross , in the south 77 euros , a differential of 35%. Milan was the area where entrepreneurs paid the highest average salaries: 34,343 euros . Monza followed with 28,833 euros, Parma with 27,869 euros, Modena with 27,671 euros, Bologna with 27,603 euros and Reggio Emilia with 26,937 euros. "A area with a strong concentration of high productivity and high added value sectors, such as luxury cars, mechanics, automotive, mechatronics, biomedical and agri-food", the Cgia always claims. The “poorest” employees, however, are found in Trapani with 14,854 euros , in Cosenza with 14,817 euros, in Nuoro with 14,676 euros and finally in Vibo Valentia with 13,388 euros, while the Italian average of salaries in 2023 was 23,662 euros .
