Sondrio, 10 May 2025 – "We are all focused, focused on achieving all the objectives, on making a beautiful event, but it is also a starting point because it is the construction of the new image of Valtellina, of the new economy of Valtellina until 2040-2050 , so it is an unrepeatable opportunity that we absolutely cannot miss". These are the words spoken today, Saturday 10 May, by the Minister of Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti , on the sidelines of an event in the province of Sondrio on the next Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina 2026, which will also involve Valtellina.

When do the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics start?
The Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Games will take place from 6 to 22 February 2026 (the Paralympic Games will be held from 6 to 15 March). More than 3,500 athletes from 93 countries will compete for 195 medals in 16 Olympic disciplines and six Paralympic sports against the backdrop of the beautiful Italian landscapes. The big news for this edition will be the Olympic debut of ski mountaineering.
Update on the state of the works in view of the Winter GamesOn the state of the works , the minister remarked that "the works are moving forward" even if "there are some complexities that are being found". Regarding the possibility that the timing for the realization of some works could be extended, Giorgetti reiterated that " we are absolutely convinced that we will arrive in time for the event ". "We must understand how the world is changing - he then concluded -, but above all that the economy is built on people. We must convince these boys and girls to stay in Valtellina, to continue to believe in it in order to live here and therefore we must create these types of opportunities, the human resource is fundamental".
