The most expensive pizza in Italy is in Emilia Romagna: here's in which city

According to a study carried out by the Training and Research Centre on Consumption (Crc), the most expensive pizza in Italy is in Reggio Emilia
Reggio Emilia, May 10, 2025 – If you are passing through Reggio Emilia and you feel like having a pizza, it is almost better to go… to a restaurant. Certainly not for the quality of the product which, as demonstrated by the award-winning Piccola Piedigrotta (for years in the 50 Top pizza in Italy ranking), is very high, but rather for the cost of a meal in a pizzeria, which is close to that of a meal consisting of a first or second course.
In fact, according to a study conducted by the Center for Training and Research on Consumption (Crc), the most expensive pizza in Italy today is served in Reggio Emilia , where the average cost of a meal in a pizzeria (which includes a pizza and a drink, plus service and cover charge if applicable) stands at 17.58 euros. A real bloodbath for families if you consider that the cost of this dish, perhaps the most loved by Italians, has risen in our country by 18.3% in the last six years, settling at an average of 12.14 euros per person.
Analyzing the Istat data published by Mimit (which considers the most sold pizza in the commercial establishments taken as a reference, generally the margherita), after Reggio Emilia, in second place is Siena, with an average of 17.24 euros per meal. In third place is Macerata with an average of 16.25 euros. Another surprise on the opposite side of the ranking: the city with the cheapest pizza is not Naples, as one might expect, but Livorno, with an average cost of 8.75 euros per meal, preceded by Reggio Calabria (9.15 euros), Pescara (9.37 euros) and Catanzaro (9.96 euros), the only provinces with an expense of less than 10 euros per drink.
As we were saying, Reggio Emilia is the city where the award-winning Piccola Piedigrotta is located, which for years has been included in the coveted 50 Top pizza ranking, considered one of the most influential guides in the world of pizza. In 2024, the restaurant led by Giovanni Mandara ranked 58th.
