L'Oréal invests 100 million for sustainable transformation of the industry


L'Oréal has announced the launch of its new sustainable innovation accelerator , a program that will invest €100 million over the next five years. The initiative was created with the aim of identifying, developing, testing and bringing to a global scale innovative technologies capable of addressing the main environmental challenges of the beauty sector and contributing in a concrete way to the sustainable transformation of the industry.
Through this program, L'Oréal intends to support startups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as established and highly innovative companies, targeting ready-to-test solutions in strategic areas of sustainability. Key themes on which investments will focus include low -carbon solutions, alternative and sustainable ingredients, elimination of fossil-based plastics , reduction of plastic waste , low-impact industrial processes, water resilience , nature-based solutions and inclusive and socially equitable business models .
The program is part of L'Oréal's broader 10-year sustainability strategy L'Oréal for the Future , which sets ambitious goals to be achieved by 2030. These include using 100% renewable energy only, using at least 90% bio-based materials for formulas and packaging, reusing 100% of water in industrial processes, reducing virgin plastic use by 50% and using 50% recycled or bio-based materials for packaging. On the climate front, L'Oréal is committed to reducing direct emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 57% and some indirect emissions (Scope 3) by 28% .
L'Oréal will also collaborate with the prestigious Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), a strategic partnership that will allow the company to intercept, evaluate, test and expand the adoption of revolutionary technologies , capable of responding in a concrete and innovative way to the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.
