In Friuli Venezia Giulia you work more and earn better

In Friuli Venezia Giulia, people work an average of 255 days a year, significantly more than the mere 228 days recorded in Southern Italy. This means that, in a year, a fellow countryman clocks in 27 days more than his or her Southern colleague. Pordenone stands out with an average of 261.9 days worked in 2023, ranking 9th in Italy. Udine (253.9 days), Trieste (252.7 days) and Gorizia (247 days) follow. According to the analysis by the CGIA Research Office, the difference is due to economic and market dynamics. In the South, in fact, in addition to the more widespread underground economy and precariousness, the significant presence of part-time and seasonal workers has an impact, especially in tourism and agriculture. This greater work intensity in Friuli Venezia Giulia also translates into higher wages. In 2023, the average gross daily wage in the region was 95 euros, compared to 77 euros in the South, with a difference of 23.3% in favor of workers in FVG. In terms of productivity, Friuli Venezia Giulia surpasses the South by 25.5%. Analyzing gross annual wages at the provincial level, Trieste ranks 12th in Italy with 25,926 euros. Pordenone (24,688 euros), Udine (23,670 euros) and Gorizia (22,220 euros) follow.
CGIA emphasizes that, in order to further increase wages, especially for less qualified professionals, it is important to continue cutting IRPEF and incentivize decentralized bargaining, taking advantage of the high percentage of workers covered by national collective agreements in Italy.
