Traditional Crops and Landscape: Dining with Art at the Royal Palace for the 2,500th Anniversary of Neapolis

On the occasion of the 2,500th anniversary of the founding of Neapolis, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape for the Metropolitan Area of ​​Naples, in collaboration with the Royal Palace, is promoting the conference "At the Table with Art. Cultivations of Excellence in the Province of Naples for the Protection and Conservation of the Landscape," which will be held on November 17, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Royal Palace.

The initiative aims to enhance the role of traditional agricultural crops and excellent agri-food products as tools for active landscape protection and cultural continuity, combining rural wisdom, territorial identity, and productive innovation. The greetings and introduction will be entrusted to Paola Ricciardi, Abap superintendent for the metropolitan area of ​​Naples, to Tiziana D'Angelo, delegate director of the Royal Palace, and to Brunella Como, head of the demo-ethno-anthropological heritage sector of Sabap Na-Met.

The conference program includes presentations of significant case studies of Neapolitan agri-food excellence: Mimmo De Gregorio will illustrate the Sant'Agata de' Goti limoncella apple, Francesco Scala will discuss the Somma dei Monti Lattari cherry, while Bruno Moresca will delve into the characteristics and history of the Sorrento PGI lemon. These contributions will be complemented by presentations by Giuseppe Orefice, an expert in integrated local development, and Alessandro Manna, president of the Siti Reali association.

The section entitled "At the Table with Art from the Bourbons to the Savoys in the Collections of the Royal Palace and Villa Pignatelli" will be curated by Royal Palace officials Stefania Gatto, Antonella Delli Paoli, and Elena Carrelli. The aim is to illustrate how food culture and the historical forms of the rural landscape intertwine with the city's artistic and historical heritage.

Following the conference, you can take a guided tour of the Appartamento di Etiquette and the Hanging Garden of the Royal Palace, exploring the connections between art, nature, and food culture at the Bourbon court. Admission is free, subject to availability.
