The Herald St. gallery arrives in downtown Bologna

Bologna, November 11, 2025 – From today, Bologna no longer seems to be just a stop on the art calendar, but also a destination. The clearest signal comes from one of the British galleries most attentive to the evolution of contemporary art, which has decided to bet on our city with a lasting investment.
From the United Kingdom to under the Twin TowersHerald St – a reality founded in 2005 in London by Ash L'Ange and Nicky Verber – will in fact open its first space outside the United Kingdom at the beginning of 2026 , right under the Twin Towers, in a building in the historic center.
Over 100 square metres on the ground floor will be added to the London locations in Bethnal Green and Bloomsbury and will be inaugurated with ' Cooperative Village ', an exhibition dedicated to the American painter Matt Connors scheduled for January.
The choice is no coincidence, as Verber explains: “Bologna has always fascinated us; it is a vibrant cultural context, linked to figures like Morandi and Ghirri.”
A relationship built over timeA relationship that began in 2020, when the gallery curated a group show during Arte Fiera, bringing together artists from its own stable—such as Michael Dean, Pablo Bronstein , and Nicole Wermers —with Italian artists including Carla Accardi, Patrizio di Massimo , and SAGG Napoli. Furthermore, since 2021, Herald St has represented Bolognese artist Francis Offman .
Where will the gallery be in Bologna? The new space will be located in Via dell'Inferno , in the premises of the former Galleria Spazia , currently undergoing renovation.
"Herald St will contribute dynamically to the vibrant local scene," says Verber, "which includes major public museums like MAMbo, private institutions like the MAST Foundation and Palazzo Bentivoglio, and a growing network of galleries and collectors spanning multiple generations. Furthermore, we look forward to seeing how our artists respond to this city's multi-layered and stimulating context."
A city chosen as a connecting hubThe Bologna opening is also part of a broader strategy: after its debut at Arte Fiera in 2025, Herald St will return in 2026 with a project that will include, among others, works by Lucia Di Luciano .
For Verber, the city isn't an alternative to Italy's major cities, but rather a hub: "Its proximity to Rome, Milan, Turin, and Naples makes it an ideal starting point for working with top-level collections and institutions."
While the arrival of an international gallery doesn't in itself guarantee a change of scenery, it does indicate something that's now hard to ignore: Bologna is no longer a simple crossroads, but a place to stay.
