Eternal Desire. Miniartextil's Fiber Art Returns

On display from mini textiles to large installations
An "Eternal Desire": this is the theme of the 34th edition of Miniartextil, dedicated to contemporary fiber art, which opens today at 6:00 PM at the Palazzo del Broletto in Piazza Duomo in Como and will remain open to the public until September 21, Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The exhibition is organized by the Arte&Arte cultural association, which this year has chosen a title that invites reflection on one of the most deeply rooted and enduring forces of the human soul: desire, experienced and presented as creative energy. "Not something to be possessed, but an inner tension that can generate beauty, connection, and form." Through their textile works, artists are called upon to express this force through knots, weaves, materials, and surfaces, where this theme takes concrete form.
The exhibition will present a wide variety of works, from mini-textiles to large-scale installations and multimedia projects. A total of 68 works will be on display, including 14 large-scale ones, by artists from Italy as well as eleven other countries: Austria, North Korea, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Iran, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Among them is Joana Vasconcelos, a Portuguese visual artist known for her monumental works featuring a significant proportion of yarn mixed with a variety of other materials. She also currently has a solo exhibition in Ascona. Other artists include Joel Andrianomearisoa, a Parisian with a background in Madagascar; Samuel Nnorom, the Nigerian winner of Icreate Africa 2019; Hiva Alizadeh, who lives and works between Tehran and London and whose research is rooted in the Persian tradition of carpet weaving; and Paolo Gonzato, a Milanese artist. The authors of the large-format works also include Argentinean Kela Cremaschi, who lives and works in Como, Londoner Anna Ray, Milanese artists Giuseppe Coco and Linda Pellegrini, and Katharina Lehmann from Munich.
