Demonstrations against violence in Gaza are taking place in Piazza Grande in Locarno.

Dozens and dozens of slips of paper, all with a red spot covered with a piece of gauze, symbolize the blood of the dead in Palestine, and a message: "Stop the genocide". Piazza Grande, the heart of Locarno and its Film Festival going on these days, demonstrates against violence in Gaza. To mobilize the spectators, who have got my tickets last night before the screening of 'The Birthday Party' by Miguel Ángel Jiménez (in the presence of director, Willem Dafoe and Emma Suarez), was a local group of activists, who handed them the small signs before of the event. The protest was held in silence for about a minute and given the participation of a good part of the public present. The artistic director of the Locarno Film Festival, Giona A. Nazzaro, at the end of the demonstration he declared from the stage: "We are with you, thank you." A round of applause then rose from the square.
