"I didn't think it would happen. There was some possibility, but I was just as surprised as everyone else when his name was mentioned," John Prevost , the older brother of Pope Leo XIV, told the US media from his home in the southern suburbs of New Lenox. A retired Catholic school principal, John, 71, has not yet processed his brother's rise to the papacy. The election, the Daily Herald website says, "was a shocking moment," he said.
"I was on the phone with my niece and we couldn't believe it. Then the phone, the iPad and my cell phone went crazy," he said. "We had a normal childhood," he said. "It's a little strange, but all three of us knew what we wanted to do from a young age. And Rob - that's what we called him from a young age - knew he was going to be a priest from the time he could walk. A neighbor once said he was going to be pope someday."
