While it's still too early to tell how the budding romance between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at Ferrari will evolve, the Briton hopes it will follow a more harmonious trajectory than the Star Wars- style rivalry he experienced with Nico Rosberg.
A fierce battleTen years ago, the two then-Mercedes teammates engaged in a fierce battle on the Monaco track. While Hamilton was chasing a second consecutive world title, he saw in his rearview mirrors the constant pressure from his rival within the Silver Arrows. It was far from a friendly duel, marked by several collisions throughout their time together.
In the Principality, during free practice, it was the Briton who set the record straight, a week after Rosberg's pole/victory double in Barcelona, by setting a time of 1'17''192 - more than seven tenths ahead of his pit neighbour.
Although victory in the Principality seemed certain for Hamilton after a perfectly controlled qualifying and race, poor coordination in the Mercedes pits and an error in calculating the gaps ultimately gave the German victory. "I was very lucky. He definitely deserved the victory," Rosberg admitted at the time. This did nothing to ease the tension between the two.
