Coco Gauff began the 2025 Roland Garros with a fit of laughter, realizing she'd walked onto the court without her racquets in the first round. Two weeks later, she's still smiling. But this time, the American finds herself with excess baggage. On Saturday, June 7, she left Court Philippe Chatrier carrying the cumbersome Suzanne Lenglen Cup, following her victory over Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in the final (6-7, 6-2, 6-4).

By defeating the world number 1, Coco Gauff adds a second Grand Slam title to her trophy cabinet, which already included the 2023 US Open. Above all, she continues her growth curve at the very place where she signed a painful birth certificate in 2022. For her initiation to these altitudes, she was dispatched in the final by the Polish Iga Swiatek (1-6, 3-6). "I was extremely stressed. I put a lot of pressure on myself, I left beaten from the start," she admitted.

Three years later, she's no longer quite the same player who stepped onto center court. At 21, Coco Gauff is now a force to be reckoned with on the tour, a world number 2 capable of racking up successes and titles on all surfaces. The American now knows how to handle pressure; and the one who was considered across the Atlantic, even as a teenager, as the heir to Serena Williams has never lacked it.
