Monday, May 12, as part of the public meetings initiated by the Republican and Socialist Left of Landes, the meeting is scheduled for Aire-sur-l'Adour
Following a conference on the defense of public services led by Marie-Noëlle Lienemann in Bougue last April, the Republican and Social Left (GRS) is holding another meeting on Monday, May 12. The public meeting, which will take place in the Salle de l'Orangerie (rue Henri-Labeyrie) at 7 p.m., will focus on French rail and its future.
Entitled "Saving French Rail: Is Opening Up to Competition the Miracle Solution?", this conference will be hosted by Chloé Pétat, essayist and political activist at the GRS. She is the author of the recent book "The Failed Revolution of the 21st Century ." Members of the Osons le Train collective will speak during the evening. Admission is free and open to all.
"The opening up of French rail to competition has been effective since 2006 for freight and since 2020 for passenger transport. Driven by the European Union, competition should, according to its advocates, improve the quality of service and lower prices for users and regions. What is the reality? Beyond opening up to competition, what is the current situation of French rail? How can we implement an effective public policy around rail transport, particularly to better serve the regions?" promises the press release announcing the public meeting.
