US Open 2025: Sabalenka advances to the final again

Here's to a possible third Grand Slam final in a row for the two dominant superstars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. As world numbers one and two, they are the big favorites for the men's title.
The epic French Open final in early June, in which Alcaraz triumphed after five and a half hours, remains unforgettable. In July, Sinner's Wimbledon final made things less exciting. And this time?
The question of favorites is more open in the women's competition. Polish Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek was in strong form, winning the title in Cincinnati. Belarusian world number one Aryna Sabalenka enjoys the fast hard court, but after two final defeats in Melbourne and Paris, she is still waiting for her first Grand Slam title this year.
In New York in 2023, Novak Djokovic, then 36, became the oldest US Open winner of the professional era. The Serbian star celebrated his 24th Grand Slam title – his last to date. The 38-year-old's quest for his 25th triumph continues to drive him to become the sole record holder, ahead of Australian Margaret Court (24). Doubts that he can do it again are growing.
Without a preparatory tournament, he's now back on the attack. He hasn't played a match since his semifinal exit at Wimbledon, hampered by a thigh injury.
Higher than ever—and higher than at any other tennis tournament. Tennis professionals can earn a total of $90 million (€77.3 million) this year. Another record prize money. The amount has been increased by 20 percent. The winners of the women's and men's singles tournaments on September 6 and 7 will each receive $5 million (€4.3 million). A year ago, it was $3.6 million. The first round of singles alone offers $110,000 (approximately €94,500) in prize money.
The US Open isn't available to watch for free. The online broadcaster SporteuropeTV, formerly Sportdeutschland.TV, has held the broadcasting rights since 2023. A pass for the entire tournament costs €20. Boris Becker, among others, serves as a pundit. Sky also broadcasts the final Grand Slam tournament of the year – and has acquired a sublicense for it.
