AI does legal work: Is that the end of the 150,000-euro jobs for lawyers?

The numbers speak for themselves: 76 percent of legal experts in corporate legal departments and 68 percent of lawyers in law firms use GenAI at least once a week. Around 35 percent even use it daily, according to the results of the 2024 Future Ready Lawyer Study by Wolters Kluwer .
And the next figure: minus 51 percent. Based on current figures from the Federal Employment Agency, the Frankfurter Sonntagszeitung calculated that the number of apprenticeships in legal advice has fallen by 51 percent since 2015. This means that only half as many paralegals are being trained as ten years ago. In none of the other areas examined – tax consulting, secretarial work, and software development – was the decline more drastic.
Is there a connection? And are lawyers themselves next? Is AI taking away their well-paid jobs?
