Updated on September 14, 2025 - 5:00 a.m. Reading time: 3 min.
Caren Miosga discusses politics, economics, and society weekly in her talk show. Who's featured on the show?
Honest, courageous, and with perspectives that provide food for thought: To round off the week, "Caren Miosga" on ARD will be speaking plainly. The topic of today's broadcast , on Sunday, September 14, 2025 , at 9:45 p.m., is the budget debate.
Viewers can expect an exciting round. Caren Miosga will welcome the following guests on the show:
- Heidi Reichinnek: The Left Party's co-leader advocates for a fundamental redistribution of wealth in Germany. In the area of tax policy, she advocates for easing the burden on low- and middle-income earners and, in return, for higher rates for higher incomes. A key proposal is the reintroduction of a wealth tax. She also calls for a stricter inheritance tax and the closure of tax loopholes. Her long-term goal: to abolish billionaires. Reichinnek calls for a sanction-free minimum income of €1,200 in the citizen's income system.
- Philippa Sigl-Glöckner: The economist and director of the "Dezernat Zukunft" think tank is, among other things, a member of the expert commission for the modernization of the debt brake. The financial expert has long called for a "general overhaul" of the debt rules and advocates for increased government investment. Sigl-Glöckner studied in Oxford and London, worked for the World Bank in Liberia, and from 2018 to 2020 in the Federal Ministry of Finance. In the 2025 federal election , she ran for the SPD for a direct mandate in Munich North.
- Michael Bröcker: The editor-in-chief of Table.Media criticizes the Left Party's social policy initiatives, deeming them irrational at best and dangerous at worst. He criticizes the fact that spending on social benefits has tripled over the past 30 years and calls for reforms. He also sees potential for savings in the citizen's income and calls for tougher sanctions. He argues that the current structure of the citizen's income is unfair, especially to the working population.
According to the station's website, this issue addresses the question "Is left-wing politics damaging our prosperity, Ms. Reichinnek?" The description continues: "Record debts and new funding gaps: The budget debate is putting the future of the welfare state at the top of the domestic political agenda. Social issues will also play a central role in this Sunday's local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Left Party is demanding higher taxes for higher earners and more redistribution. But how can social justice be combined with economic competitiveness? What will a sustainable welfare state look like in the future – and where will the money for it come from?"
