A Welsh tourist attraction has reopened this week, having been closed for two years following storm damage.

The Steep Ravine at Bluestone National Park Resort was shut two years ago when Storm Darragh swept across the country. From December 2024 until this week, Steep Ravine remained off-limits to visitors at the Pembrokeshire park.

As part of the restoration efforts, woodland areas impacted by the storms have been repaired, while fallen timber and natural woodland material have been deliberately left within the Ravine to assist in replenishing soil nutrients and promoting new plant growth.

Bluestone visitors can now experience the revamped Ravine, which features new attractions such as the 'Summit Flight', a high-speed 279m zip line experience, and the 'Double Glide' - shorter zips created to build confidence progressively.

The reopening of the Ravine at the award-winning 5-star resort in Pembrokeshire also signals the return of Camp Smokey and Smokey Joe's Shindig. The former is a rustic outdoor dining location at the base of the Ravine, where guests can enjoy lunch, a BBQ feast and marshmallow toasting.

Smokey Joe's Shindig is tailored for the evening and offers family sing-alongs and dancing.

James McNamara, director of product and programme development at Bluestone, said: "We know how special the Steep Ravine is to so many of our guests and closing it back in 2024 was not a decision we took lightly. The storm damage meant the area was no longer safe, so it was important that we took the time to restore the Ravine carefully and responsibly, working closely with specialists throughout the process.

"We've treated this special place with real care and respect. It means a great deal to our guests and our team, and we're proud to be reopening it in a way that keeps its spirit alive."

Summer breaks at Bluestone start from £400, based on a four-night stay at a Caldey Lodge arriving June 8, 2026.

This publication's very own Steffan Rhys paid a visit to Bluestone earlier this year and had nothing but glowing praise for the holiday retreat.

"Holiday park it may be, but Bluestone wants you to feel like you are part of the Pembrokeshire panorama that surrounds you on all sides. So well-absorbed is the resort into its surroundings that despite its size and its hundreds of lodges you'd scarcely have any clue it was there until you were well inside," he wrote.

"But that's not to say it's not also a modern and luxurious holiday experience, especially where its new lodges are concerned. They took my breath away."

There are numerous reasons beyond Bluestone why a visit to Pembrokeshire is worthwhile. One of the country's coastal villages, Saundersfoot, was recently crowned the finest seaside town in Britain for 2026. Also located in Pembrokeshire is the Blue Lagoon, which ranks amongst the most spectacular wild swimming locations you will discover anywhere.
