Footy star Brandon Smith is charged with alleged drug dealing and a betting offence after police questioned him at airport

NRL star Brandon Smith has been charged with allegedly supplying drugs and a betting offence after he was questioned by police at Gold Coast Airport earlier this month.
The Bunnies forward was released without charge after officers stopped him on August 9 as he arrived in Queensland to play a match against the Titans with his South Sydney teammates.
'A 29-year-old man has been issued with a Summons by Queensland Police on August 20 for supplying dangerous drugs and using or disclosing inside knowledge for betting,' a Queensland Police spokesman said.
'The man is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 18 September.
'Investigations by detectives from the Organised Crime Gangs Group, Taskforce Maxima, South Eastern Region are continuing.'
Soon after Smith was questioned at the airport, South Sydney CEO Blake Solly said the player was with teammates that evening at a Broadbeach hotel, but gave no details about what happened with police.

The 29-year-old's season has been almost completely wiped out by injury
'The South Sydney Rabbitohs are aware of allegations made by Queensland Police against player Brandon Smith,' Souths said in a statement on Monday afternoon.
'The Club has informed the NRL Integrity Unit about the allegations.
'As this matter is part of a Queensland Police investigation, the Rabbitohs will be making no further comment at this stage.'
Earlier this month, Acting Queensland Police Commissioner Shane Shepley shed some light on why Smith was questioned.
'We chatted to him about a number of things and he was able to go on and play football,' Shepley said.
'Brandon was very cooperative with us and he was able to go on and play a good game of football from what I saw.'
Smith made the switch from the Roosters to their arch rivals earlier this year but has only starred in a handful of games due to injury.
The former Storm star played for the Bunnies in their 40-0 win over St George Illawarra on Thursday night in Sydney.
Prior to that he was also in the side for the win over Parramatta on August 16, which followed the win over the Titans.

Smith found out his time at the Roosters had come to an end through the media, he told the Daily Mail.
'I'm blindsided by the fact the news came out through the media before I found out about it,' he said.
'Journos knew more than I did in this situation.
'The first thing I did was tell my girlfriend. She was next to me driving in the car.
'I was a bit hungover. It was quite a vulnerable time for me, I'd just finished a wedding. I didn't really know what was going on.'
After making his NRL debut with the Storm in 2017 and winning the 2021 premiership with the club, Smith shifted to the Roosters in 2023.
He picked up a serious knee injury in their round 26 loss to Canberra last year, and suffered another knee injury during his debut for Souths in round 18.
