Facebook down: Live updates as users report outage and Messenger login issues

A number of Meta services, including Facebook, Instagram and Messanger are still down for several users this afternoon.
Meta is aware of the problems and working on it, says its communications chief Andy Stone.
A message on Meta's service disruption site states: "We are currently experiencing high disruptions impacting Messenger Platform. Our engineering teams are investigating the issue. We will provide another update if additional information is available."
Unexpected Instagram and Facebook logouts have left many wondering whether their accounts have been compromised.
Meta Communications Director Andy Stone earlier said on X that the company is "aware people are currently having trouble" accessing its services and are working to fix the issue.
Some Facebook users say they're now able to use the app properly after being automatically logged out.
Taking to X, one person wrote: "Facebook is back now in my phone. I updated my app and it is working properly now."
Another added: "Got kicked off of Facebook earlier, was so angry! Then about 10 minutes later all of Meta went out. Just relieved to have my Facebook account back."

More than 17,000 Facebook users have reported issues with the social media platform this afternoon, according to Downdetector - which briefly began working after also going down earlier.
A graph shows that the majority of these reports were made at 2:50pm UK time.
Meta Communications Director Andy Stone has taken to X to acknowledge the problems people are having with their accounts.
One Meta user has shared a screenshot of an error message on one of their social media accounts.
The message reads: "This page isn't available right now. This may be because of a technical error that we're trying to get fixed. Try reloading this page."
Meta users have reported being unable to log into their Facebook and Messenger accounts, even if they were previosuly logged in.
Some users have said Facebook is still acting like their accounts are logged in, but redirects them to a login page if they try to interact with the site
Social media users have flocked to X to report problems with Facebook and Instagram this afternoon, with many asking whether others are experiencing the same issues amid the widespread outage.
Downdetector - the website millions use to track online outages - also appears to be experiencing issues.
It comes during the ongoing Meta disruption, which is impacting access to Facebook and Instagram accounts.
People unable to access Facebook have taken to reddit to vent their frustration. A Reddit post titled: “Is Facebook down for everyone? It just suddenly booted me out of it and Messenger,” had more than 900 replies as people chimed in with their experiences.
“Also got logged out. Good to know its not just me,” one user wrote.
“Thought I got hacked and lost it all lol,” said another.
Another added: “Just got forced logged out from both messenger and the regular app.
“In Germany, if that matters. Apparently it's happening, like, everywhere at the moment.”
While a fourth person said: “suddenly booted out of the app while in a call on a browser, then the call froze. followed by IG not loading.
“Meta is down for the count!”
