Alexandra Grant Shares What She Loves About Keanu Reeves After 6 Years
Alexandra Grant and Keanu Reeves are on an excellent adventure.
The visual artist shared how the couple—who released the book Ode to Happiness as their first joint venture in 2011 before stepping out as a couple in 2019—balances their romantic relationship with their individual careers and their bond as co-collaborators.
"He's always so appreciative, so he's always cautious with feedback, and I would say the same," Grant, 53, told People in an interview published May 29 of her and Reeves' processes as artists. "You want to always be respectful and leave the other person to bake their cake."
"We know that we could talk about any problem or challenge or creative idea and talk about it forever if that is needed," Grant explained, adding they also find it important to "respect the individual need to dive deep and have a process that's maybe quiet or in another collaboration."
And it's not all work between the couple of six years, who originally met at a dinner party in 2009. Grant, also a wine maker, gushed, "Just talking about my love makes me sweat."
However, when Grant and Reeves do work together—such as co-founding X Artists' Books in 2017—there's one golden rule the creative duo prioritizes above all else.
"I'd say the key to it is the mutual respect and also it's play, right?" Grant mused. "We get to play creatively. The last thing I will say that I think we share is just the belief in projects."
As such, Grant loves supporting the 61-year-old—who previously dated late actress Jennifer Syme—throughout his legendary movie career.
"I've lived with John Wick, I've lived with Neo," Grant admitted, elaborating that "when he's in a character, for example, I have so much respect for that understanding that this is the middle to the end of a project, right? And I think the same goes for painting," because despite not being a performer, Grant said, "when I'm in painter mode, I am in it."

Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant originally met at a dinner party in 2009, according to New York Times T Magazine. The John Wick star and the artist went on to collaborate on two books together, 2011's Ode to Happiness and the 2016 series Shadows. The pair also co-founded the publisher X Artists' Books in 2017.
The duo attend the UNAIDS Gala during Art Basel 2016, but no one seemed to catch on at the time.
"It's really astonishing to me how in the last five months, all of a sudden, she goes to an event with him and everybody goes insane, like, 'It's his new girlfriend,' because she had gone to a lot of events with him," Alexandra's friend Jennifer Tilly told Page Six in February 2020. "It's just suddenly surfaced that he's been dating her for several years."
The couple attended a Saint Laurent fashion show in Malibu together and held hands in front of photographers, though their low-key outing still didn't make headlines...
Keanu and Alexandra's romantic relationship did not fully capture the interest of the public until they walked the red carpet hand-in-hand at the 2019 LACMA Art + Film Gala. Alexandra later shared that she never expected their first official appearance as a couple to go viral.
"I think every single person I knew called me in the first week of November, and that's fascinating," she recalled to Vogue in March 2020. "But the question I've been asking in all of this is: ‘What is the opportunity for good?'"
The couple only had eyes for each other when they attended the 2022 MOCA Gala in Los Angeles, which marked their first red carpet appearance in three years.

Their public smooch came just after Keanu shared rare insight into their relationship, the Speed actor telling a sweet story after he was asked about his last moment of bliss.
"A couple of days ago with my honey," he recently told People. "We were in bed. We were connected. We were smiling and laughing and giggling. Feeling great. It was just really nice to be together."
The pair got all dolled up for a night out at the LACMA Art+Film Gala, the same event where they made their red carpet debut in 2019.
