Strictly Come Dancing Drug Scandal: BBC Launches Investigation

- The BBC is probing alleged cocaine use by two Strictly stars.
- Claims were made in a legal submission by Wynne Evans’ lawyers.
- An external law firm will lead the investigation.
- The scandal follows past controversies involving bullying and misconduct.
The BBC has launched a formal investigation into claims of cocaine use by two unnamed Strictly Come Dancing stars. The allegations, first reported by The Sun on Sunday, suggest the drug use was widely known among the cast and crew.
An external law firm is leading the probe, marking the latest controversy for the long-running dance competition.
The claims originated from a legal submission in March by law firm Russells, acting for former contestant Wynne Evans. The submission alleged that two individuals on the show used cocaine, with their behavior openly discussed backstage.
A source told The Sun:
“It was well known on the show that two stars took cocaine… it was talked about widely among the cast.”.
Another insider claimed one star was described as “off their face”, with remarks about their dilated pupils.
The BBC confirmed the investigation but withheld further details. A spokesperson stated:
“We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further.”.
An external legal team, reportedly Pinsent Masons, will handle witness interviews before reporting findings to BBC executives.
A Troubled Year for StrictlyThis scandal follows multiple controversies:
- Giovanni Pernice exited in 2024 after bullying claims by Amanda Abbington.
- Graziano Di Prima left amid misconduct allegations.
- Wynne Evans was dropped by the BBC for inappropriate remarks.
New welfare measures, including chaperones and extra training, were introduced last year 1. Yet, the show faces fresh scrutiny ahead of its 23rd season.
