Power cuts LIVE: Bristol, Birmingham and Leicester heatwave chaos after Met Office warning


The UK has been hit with power cuts as scorching high temperatures begin and extreme heat alerts are in place.
Households in Bristol, Birmingham and Leicester have already had their power impacted by the severe weather.
National Grid have issued a hot weather alert, in which they claim "teams are ready around the clock, and if your power goes off, we will work to get it back on as safely and as quickly as we can," during the sweltering spell.
In Bristol, alongside the heat thunderstorms have caused chaos, with homes on fire after being struck by lightning.
The Met Office have issued power cut warnings to 71 areas across the UK on Tuesday, with more areas expected to be impacted the following days.

There are at least 77 properties in Bristol without power. These outages started just before 6pm on Monday evening.
A spokesperson for National Grid said: "Our team are currently investigating the fault and will update you as soon as possible."
The Met Office say: "People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items."
