M54 crash LIVE: Motorway shut after serious collision as road to stay closed for hours

As per data by Google Traffic, it appears the M54 will remain closed well beyond rush hour and almost to midday.According to traffic data and mapping provided by the major search engine, it appears the estimated restoration timeframe for the M54 now sits at around 11.30am.
A National Highways spokesperson confirmed the M54 remains closed in Shropshire "between J3 Albrighton and J2 Wolverhampton following a police-led incident".
They added: "Police investigations are underway. There are currently no delays on the approach."
As per AA Roadwatch, the serious crash was first reported just after 3am.
"Road closed due to serious crash on M54 Eastbound from J3 A41 Newport Road (Albrighton) to J2 A4510 (Wolverhampton)," the incident report reads via the traffic monitoring website.
A spokesperson from the British highway authority said: "West Mercia Police are currently on scene and leading the incident with assistance from National Highways traffic officers."
They added that "the closure is expected to remain place for several hours" as police carry out collision investigation work, meaning the motorway will remain closed during Friday rush hour.
National Highways has confirmed a diversion route is currently in place.
A spokesperson advised that motorists heading east of the M54 should follow the solid square diversion symbol on local road signs.
Here is a road-by-road breakdown of the route:
- Exit M54 at Junction 3
- Head north on the A41
- Head east on the A5
- Head south on the A449 to return to the M54 at Junction 2.
