Number of teams to be increased to 48 in 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup

FIFA announced that the number of teams in the 2031 Women's World Cup will be increased from 32 to 48.

According to a statement from FIFA, the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup to be held in the USA will switch to a 12-group format with the increase in the number of teams.

With the new format, 48 teams will compete in the organization, the number of matches will be increased from 64 to 104, and 40 more matches will be played, thus extending the tournament for another week.
