Novak Djokovic advances to second round of US Open

Novak Djokovic advanced to the second round of the US Open, the final Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season.

In the men's singles tournament in New York, world number 7 Serbian Djokovic advanced to the next round by defeating American tennis player Learner Tien in sets of 6-1, 7-6, 6-2.

In the other important match of the day, world number 13 Daniil Medvedev of Russia lost to world number 51 Benjamin Bonzi of France 3-2 with sets of 3-6, 5-7, 7-6, 6-0 and 4-6, thus saying goodbye to the tournament early.

In the women's singles, world number 4 Jessica Pegula from the USA defeated Egyptian tennis player Mayar Sherif 6-0, 6-4.
