It's been 13 years since we said goodbye to Çizgi Metin

Thirteen years have passed since Turkish football's legendary left-winger Metin Kurt passed away from heart failure on August 24, 2012. Kurt, a constant fixture at Galatasaray for a time, also played for the national team. However, due to his pursuit of personal rights and union activities, Kurt was expelled from Galatasaray. Passing away at the age of 64, Kurt represented a distinct sports culture and understanding of football with his political stance and moral principles.
He founded organizations like Spor-Sen and the Revolutionary Sports Workers' Union to fight for unions and rights in football. Known for his leftist and revolutionary character from his time in the sport, Metin Kurt, who famously declared, "Football is good on the ground, not the stock market," and who dribbled into industrial football, was known among the public as "Line Metin" for his catchphrase, "Where is the closest place on the field to the people? Line! Where else would I play?"
