Diogo Jota died: The traffic accident that devastated the football world came to mind

Galatasaray legend Metin Oktay, Konyaspor's Ahmet Çalık, Denizlispor's Doğan Seyfi Atlı, Alanyaspor's Josef Sural, Eskişehirspor's Kaan Öztürk, Samsunspor's Müjdat Gürsu, Muzaffer Badalıoğlu, Mete Adanır, Zoran Tomic and Nuri Asan lost their lives in traffic accidents, causing great pain.

Apart from Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota, Bulgarian Georgi Asparuhov, Italian Gaetano Scirea, Argentinian Diego Barisone, Panamanian Rommel Fernandez, Spanish Jose Antonio Reyes, Juan Gomez Gonzalez, English Laurie Cunningham, Peter Houseman, North Macedonian Petar Milosevski, German Lutz Eigendorf, Colombian Freddy Rincon, Marino Klinger, Brazilian Everaldo and Heraldo Bezerra also upset the football world by not surviving traffic accidents in various countries.

Galatasaray's legendary football player Metin Oktay lost his life in a traffic accident at the age of 51.

Metin Oktay could not be saved in the hospital to which he was taken after the traffic accident he had at the Bosphorus Bridge exit in September 1991.

It was determined that Oktay, whose car overturned, died from "a broken jaw, fractures in his left arm and internal bleeding as a result of his spleen rupturing" in the accident.

Ahmet Çalık passed away in a traffic accident on January 11, 2022, while returning from Konya to Ankara.

While the car driven by Çalık was travelling on the Ankara-Niğde highway, it went out of control and overturned into a ditch near the Gölbaşı Hacılar area.

Ahmet Çalık, who played for Galatasaray and Konyaspor after his training in Gençlerbirliği's youth academy, lost his life at the age of 27 in a traffic accident, deeply saddening football fans.

Czech football player Josef Sural did not survive the accident in which the private minibus carrying Alanyaspor players returning from an away game in Kayseri overturned in April 2019.

Sural, who was among the 7 football players in the minibus that crashed, passed away at the age of 28 in the hospital to which he was taken.

The bus carrying the Samsunspor team to the league match against Malatyaspor on January 20, 1989 collided with a truck in the Havza district.

As a result of the accident, football players Muzaffer Badalıoğlu, Mete Adanır, Zoran Tomic, technical director Nuri Asan and bus driver Asım Özkan lost their lives.

Footballers Emin Kar, Erol Dinler, Şanver Göymen, Orhan Kılınç, Kasım Çıkla, Fatih Uraz, Burhanettin Beadini, Yüksel Öğüten, Uğur Terzi and manager Yüksel Özan were injured.

After the traffic accident, Samsunspor Club added black to its red and white jersey colors in memory of those it lost.

Samsunspor football player Müjdat Gürsu had a traffic accident in 1994 on his way to pick up his friend from the airport and passed away at the age of 22.

Denizlispor's young football player Doğan Seyfi Atlı lost his life after an accident while driving from Aydın to Denizli in December 2001.

Doğan Seyfi Atlı was seriously injured when the car he was driving crashed into the barriers near Nazilli and died at the age of 21 in the hospital to which he was taken.

Diogo Jota, the 28-year-old Portuguese star footballer of Liverpool, one of the English Premier League teams, died in a traffic accident.

The Portuguese forward lost his life along with his brother Andre Silva, also a football player, in a traffic accident in the Spanish city of Zamora.

North Macedonian goalkeeper Petar Milosevski, who played for Trabzonspor, Malatyaspor and Akçaabat Sebatspor, fell victim to a traffic accident in his country.

In March 2014, the vehicle Milosevski was travelling in collided with a minibus coming from the opposite direction. Milosevski lost his life in the accident at the age of 40, while the driver of the vehicle, the President of the North Macedonian Football Federation, Ilço Gyorgyioski, survived with injuries.

Spanish footballer Jose Antonio Reyes lost his life at the age of 35 in a traffic accident in his country. Reyes, who played for teams such as Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal, did not survive the accident in the Utrera district of southern Spain in June 2019.

Former Real Madrid and Colombia national team footballer Freddy Rincon died in a car accident in his country.

55-year-old Rincon, who was seriously injured when the car he was driving collided with a bus in the city of Cali in April 2022, died in the hospital to which he was taken.
