Başakşehir signed a contract with head coach Nuri Şahin

Başakşehir signed a contract with head coach Nuri Şahin

Başakşehir , one of the Super League teams, signed a contract with coach Nuri Şahin valid until 2028.

Club president Göksel Gümüşdağ and new coach Nuri Şahin attended the signing ceremony held at Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium.

Making a statement at the signing ceremony, Gümüşdağ said:

We're starting a new week with new hopes and great excitement. Today is a very important day for Başakşehir FK and our coach Nuri Şahin. Our coach is someone we've always wanted and wanted to work with. That's why I'm very excited. Başakşehir has been in its 11th season. We're now starting our 12th season. For nine of those years, we've been a club that has been in Europe and consistently achieved success there. Our history includes one Süper Lig championship, nine European qualifications, two Turkish Cup finals, and countless player transfers. Since the founding of Başakşehir Football Club, the board of directors and all the coaches who have served have achieved significant success. Nuri Şahin is someone I believe in deeply. He played for Borussia Dortmund , Liverpool, and Real Madrid, and served the Turkish National Team for many years. His stance, diligence, personality, outgoing demeanor, and openness to scientific research are something we've always followed. I find his accomplishments in his coaching career very important and meaningful. We're all very excited today. God willing, we can continue to achieve even greater successes here with Coach Nuri. We will. Başakşehir FK is a club where everyone wants to come as a coach. However, I value people who I believe in, not based on their past, but on their future. I have great faith in Nuri Şahin's future. As a family, we will achieve significant success.

Gümüşdağ, who mentioned that he met Nuri Şahin from the 2005 European Championship with the Under-17 National Team, said, "Today is a slightly more emotional day for me. In 2005, I was a young board member at the Turkish Football Federation, responsible for the U17 and Youth National Teams. Our Under-17 team won the European Championship. Nuri was on the field as a player that day. Today, 20 years later, we're at the same table. We actually started our careers together. It means a lot to me. I'm also very excited and happy that Nuri is starting as the manager of this club. May it be auspicious. We're making a start for Turkish football today with a great footballer. I hope it will be auspicious and auspicious."

"WE AIM TO FINISH THE SEASON IN THE FIRST 4"

Göksel Gümüşdağ stated that they aim to finish the season in the top 4 in the Super League.

Gümüşdağ commented, "Our goal is always to finish in the top four. Our coach is our son, but he's a global footballer. Our goal is always Europe. We've never given up on this European goal. Europe is in our DNA. The entire team and the board of directors will unite under coach Nuri Şahin, and we will aim to achieve our goal at the end of the season."

ŞAHİN: "IT'S A VERY SPECIAL DAY FOR ME"

Nuri Şahin said that he had a very special day in his career.

Şahin emphasized that they will do everything in their power to bring Başakşehir to the places they dream of, saying, "This is a very special day for me, too. My president's kind words are very valuable to me. He has always been supportive, both during my playing career and my time as a coach. I would like to thank Göksel Gümüşdağ, who has been a big brother to me and will be the president from now on. Signing with Başakşehir means a lot to me. I've joined a good club. From the moment I stepped foot in the club yesterday, I realized how valuable a place I've reached. There's a wonderful family atmosphere, but I'm also very happy to be in a competitive and professional environment. I hope great days await us. We have a long way to go. I promise that we will do our best every day to take Başakşehir to the places it has always dreamed of."

Nuri Şahin stated that both he and Başakşehir FK are hungry for success, saying:

"I had meetings with various clubs. After leaving Borussia Dortmund, we decided not to work for a certain period. Since I was transitioning to coaching after nearly 20 years as a player, I hadn't had time for myself or my family. This six-seven-month period was very beneficial for me. Of course, we met with various clubs during this period, but Başakşehir made me feel like they only wanted me from the very first day. The most important thing for me after the Dortmund period was that important people within the club wanted me and valued me and my team. Another thing is that I've joined a very valuable and competitive club in terms of football. That's important to me too. I don't just want to coach; I want to achieve certain successes. I think both sides are hungry for success. I need Başakşehir, and Başakşehir needs a team like ours. The squad quality is very good. It's a competitive squad. I believe Başakşehir is the best place for me and my team."

"I SEE A TEAM THAT IS HUNGRY FOR SUCCESS AND CAN CARRY US TO SUCCESS"

Nuri Şahin noted that they have a good staff.

The 37-year-old manager, who stated that the signings of Bertuğ Yıldırım and Doğan Alemdar were voluntary on the final day of the transfer window, said, "Of course, we consulted recently. Our president and scouts asked for our opinion. Naturally, we examined and analyzed the squad. We requested reinforcements in some areas of weakness. However, we were always on the same page. My president didn't reject us either. Making three or four transfers on the last day isn't normal. They showed the value they place on us. I have a very good opinion of the squad's quality. We have a deep squad. Unfortunately, this year, we only have the league and the cup. I see a squad with valuable players and strong character. I see a squad that is hungry for success and capable of carrying us there."

Şahin stated that the squad aligns with his approach to play, saying, "If the squad didn't align with my approach to play, we might not be here today. Many valuable coaches worked at this club before me. I came to a club with a football philosophy ingrained in its DNA. We'll add to that and take the squad to even greater heights. I've seen the team very well."

"I CAME HERE AS A MUCH BETTER TEACHER"

The new coach of the orange-dark blue team said that the experience he gained at Antalyaspor and Borussia Dortmund made him a better coach.

Şahin, who most recently coached Germany 's Borussia Dortmund, continued his words as follows:

"Borussia Dortmund is a very valuable place for me. The biggest reason I'm here is Borussia Dortmund. It took me in from childhood and led me to coaching. I've experienced everything at that club. Of course, we made mistakes and gained experience. Because I consider Dortmund my family, I was perhaps a little overprotective. Perhaps I could have been more relaxed as a coach, but all of that comes with experience. When I spoke with Carlo Ancelotti, he told me that experience is irreplaceable. We young coaches have the attitude of, 'We know everything. We invented football.' In that respect, it's been a huge learning experience for me. We went into halftime against Real Madrid leading 2-0. I had thousands of questions. When the second half started, Carlo Ancelotti was beside me, chewing his gum with such ease, giving the air of, 'We will win this match.' I experienced all of that there. We made mistakes and did some very good things. I think I've come here as a much better coach thanks to the experience I gained at Dortmund, which began at Antalyaspor."

"I AM ALWAYS HOPEFUL FOR TURKISH FOOTBALL"

Nuri Şahin stated that he is hopeful about Turkish football, where star players are transferred for large sums.

When asked about the transfers made and the fees paid in recent years, Şahin said, "I'm always hopeful for Turkish football. In recent years, there have been significant moves for the league's brand. The only thing being talked about in Germany right now is the transfers made in Turkey. Hopefully, success will follow, and success in Europe will follow. As Başakşehir, we want to be part of this race. We know it's very difficult, but we want to be in the race and achieve our goals in the matches we face them. We're seeing very important, valuable, and high-quality players coming to Turkish football. Turkish football is now turning to players who are in peak form, not at the end of their careers. This is crucial because it's not just about bringing in names. Bringing in players like Osimhen and Ederson is crucial. We've also brought in a very valuable and successful player like Amine Harit. He's very important for our league. Hopefully, together, we can represent Turkish football in Europe in the best possible way."
