YouTube dubbing feature opens to all content creators

The feature was initially launched as a pilot with a limited number of creators in 2023. During this period, popular artists like MrBeast, Mark Robert, and Jamie Oliver worked with third-party dubbing services to add multilingual voice-overs to their videos. YouTube then launched its AI-based automatic dubbing tool, powered by Google Gemini technology. This system mimics the creator's tone of voice and emotions, providing a more natural experience.
According to data shared by YouTube, channels using multilingual voice-overs during testing saw a significant increase in performance. On average, more than 25% of watch time on these videos came from viewers whose languages differed from the original video. For example, Jamie Oliver's cooking channel saw its viewership triple after multilingual voice-overs.
YouTube is also testing another feature for creators: multilingual visuals. Since June, a limited number of users have been able to translate the text on video cover images into different languages, allowing viewers to view the video in their preferred language with a thumbnail.
These updates appear poised to make content creators more visible and accessible globally. The success of global influencers like MrBeast has already proven the feature's potential. Only time will tell how smaller channels will be affected.
