Mark Zuckerberg will make smartphones a thing of the past: He will also reduce the price of the new product

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg believes the future of wearable technology lies in smart glasses, not the metaverse. Having successfully collaborated with Ray-Ban for years, the company is preparing to launch a product that truly competes with smartphones, going beyond its previous offerings.
Developed by Meta under the codename "Hypernova," the new model will be the company's first pair of glasses with a screen. A monochrome heads-up display will be integrated into the right lens, allowing users to see essential notifications and information directly in front of their eyes.
But the most revolutionary innovation is the "neural bracelet" that will be offered with the glasses. This bracelet will use surface electromyography (sEMG) technology to detect the user's finger movements and translate them into digital commands, allowing the glasses to be controlled with gestures.
Hypernova, which will also have a camera and speakers like previous models, will also work with different artificial intelligence platforms such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini in order not to confine users to a single ecosystem.
According to Bloomberg technology analyst Mark Gurman, Meta may set a starting price of around $800 (about 740 euros) for these advanced glasses, instead of the initially estimated $1,000 to $1,400 range.
This strategic price cut is Meta's aim to take the lead in this new market, where giants like Apple, Samsung, and Snapchat are starting to show interest. In a market that Google experimented with with "Google Glass" a decade ago, but its time was premature, Meta appears willing to sacrifice margins to gain a leading position by reaching a wider audience and gaining market share.
The $800 starting price elevates the Hypernova from a luxury tech device to a competitive position with a high-end smartphone. While prescription lenses and additional options will increase the price, Meta's goal with this aggressive starting price is clear: to make smartglasses the next big technological revolution, and to be its leader.
