Coast Guard Command on Alert Against Drownings

The Coast Guard Van Lake Group Command has increased security measures against the increasing number of drowning cases during the summer months. The teams patrolling the 3,713 km² Van Lake continue their duties of search and rescue, medical evacuation, combating smuggling, maritime safety and protecting the pearl mullet.

The teams, which have increased their inspections especially in Çarpanak Island and restricted areas, are informing citizens and directing them to swim in safe areas. Patrolling with boats equipped with technological devices, the teams intervened in 6 incidents last year and rescued 11 people, while the lifeless bodies of 2 people were found.

The Coast Guard intervenes with diving teams, rescue swimmers and surface vehicles, providing first aid in possible drowning cases and transferring people to medical teams.
