Amazon plans to lay off 14,000 people

The article, written by Amazon Senior Vice President of Human Experience and Technology Beth Galetti, was shared with company employees today.
The article stated that some organizational changes will be made throughout Amazon and that this will affect some employees.
The article, which referenced a post last year by the company's CEO, Andy Jassy, about strengthening teams, stated that many employees have made significant efforts toward this goal by reducing hierarchy, increasing ownership, and helping to reduce bureaucracy.
The article stated that the results of these efforts are already visible, with teams moving faster and many Amazon employees feeling more responsible.

The article, which pointed out that the reported layoffs were a continuation of this process, said, "Our goal is to further reduce bureaucracy, simplify management layers, and shift resources to areas most critical to our customers' current and future needs. These changes will mean downsizing in some areas and hiring in others, but overall, our corporate workforce will be reduced by approximately 14,000 people."
The letter stated that hiring will continue in strategic areas next year, while also evaluating opportunities to reduce layers, increase ownership, and achieve efficiency gains in some regions.
Pointing to the transformative impact of artificial intelligence, the article stated, "Therefore, we believe we need to transition to a leaner, less layered, and more ownership-based organizational structure. This way, we can move as quickly as possible for our customers and our business."
Reports in the US press yesterday claimed that Amazon was planning to lay off approximately 30,000 employees as part of its restructuring and cost-cutting efforts.
