The 49th CHP "Stands Up to the Nation's Will" rally took place yesterday in Sivas . At the rally, a letter from the CHP's imprisoned presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was read.
The following statements were included in İmamoğlu's letter read:
Any attempt to override or alter the will of the people emanating from the ballot box through arbitrary decisions, regardless of who or how it comes, is putschism. Arresting mayors elected by the votes of millions of our citizens through the agency of a handful of members of the judiciary who have been subservient to politics is putschism itself. Unlawfully revoking the 30-year-old diploma of his opponent, who defeated him four times and was nominated by millions of votes to defeat him a fifth time, is putschism itself. You could not defeat us at the ballot box, and you will not be able to. You could not and will not take us captive through coup methods.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel then took the podium and said, "There's a rule of thumb in Sivas: If the crowd exceeds the fountain, that party is coming. Today, you've doubled the fountain in Sivas, you're making history! Thank you, brave men! We are in the city of those who said 'no' to mandate rule on September 4, 1919, and who set out for a fully independent Türkiye."
Özel said: “When the AKP came to power, the population of Sivas, which was 755,000, fell to 637,000, a loss of 118,000. While Turkey was going from 60 million to 85 million, and the population of Turkey was increasing to 25 million, Sivas was expected to surpass 1 million, and should have become a metropolitan municipality, unfortunately, they reduced Sivas to 600,000.”
I'm Hasan, a farmer in my 30s, and they brought me an application to our headquarters. Hasan Koç says, "My brother Hasan came to his hometown to make a living as a farmer, he's in his 30s. He heard I was coming and applied to headquarters. He says, 'I planted wheat, barley, and chickpeas. I spent 752,000 lira in a year on fertilizer, pesticide, diesel, and labor. I sold all my produce. I received 655,000 lira. I lost a whopping 97,000 lira. We're in the days when a farmer can work a year and lose 100,000 lira. Hasan's village is Cave Village.
OUR CANDIDATE IMAMOGLUThe village of Mağara (Cave Village) has shrunk from 300 households to 30. Because the mining company is destroying agricultural land. The thermal power plant in Kangal has exhausted farmers. They don't install the required filter, ash is pouring out of the plant, and the villagers can't breathe. You, Sivas, don't need a president like the last one who, when people complain, says, "Take your mother and go away." Instead, you need a president like the first one who says, "Farmers are the masters of the nation." The Republican People's Party's presidential candidate is none other than Ekrem İmamoğlu, who follows in the footsteps of the first, who is part of the party of the first, who declared, "Farmers are the masters of the nation," and who will make him the master of the nation again.
