UNSC's decision on Sharia before the US visit

The UNSC has made a critical decision regarding Syrian President Ahmed Shara ahead of his visit to the US . The US had requested the lifting of sanctions against Shara and Interior Minister Anas Hattab ahead of Syrian President Ahmed Shara's visit to the White House on Monday. Fourteen UNSC members voted "yes" to the resolution, while China abstained. For the draft resolution to be adopted by the UNSC, it must receive approval from at least nine of its 15 members and not be vetoed by any of the five permanent members (China, Russia, the UK, France , and the US).
WALTZ: THANKED UNSC MEMBERS
Speaking after the resolution, US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz thanked UNSC members, saying, "With the adoption of this resolution, the Council is sending a strong political message recognizing that Syria is in a new era."
Meanwhile, Syria welcomed the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) approval of the US-submitted resolution lifting sanctions against President Ahmed Sharaa and Interior Minister Anas Hattab.
Syria's permanent representative to the UN, Ibrahim Abdul-Malik Olabi, thanked the US delegation for their "tremendous efforts during the discussions on the draft resolution" in his address to the council after the resolution was passed, adding, "This resolution aligns with President Trump's historic and courageous decision to support Syria in seizing this historic opportunity."
WHAT DID THE REPRESENTATIVES OF RUSSIA AND CHINA SAY ABOUT THE DECISION?Russia’s UN Permanent Representative, Vassily Nebenzia, emphasized that the resolution “reaffirms the Security Council’s commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic,” while China’s UN Permanent Representative, Fu Cong, argued that the resolution did not address “the legitimate concerns of all parties” and said that they abstained because it did not take into account the long-term interests of the fight against terrorism and the security situation in Syria.
