Kremlin's statement on Putin-Trump meeting

Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuriy Ushakov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin told US President Donald Trump in a telephone conversation that he will not give up his goal of eliminating the root causes of the Ukraine crisis.
Noting that Trump informed Putin about the approval of the bill on reforming the tax and immigration system in the US Congress, Ushakov said Putin wished Trump success in realizing his goals and congratulated the US on Independence Day.
"It was emphasized that our countries are connected not only by their alliances in World War I and World War II, but also by deep historical roots," Ushakov said.
Ushakov, who stated that cooperation in the field of cinema between the two countries was discussed during the meeting, said: "The idea of cooperation in the exchange of film productions that promote traditional values close to the Trump administration and us was brought up between the two countries. Trump immediately said that he liked the idea."
Middle EastUshakov reported that the two leaders also discussed the Middle East and Iran, adding, "The Russian side stressed that all problematic issues and disagreements, as well as war situations, should be resolved only through political and diplomatic means. It was agreed that contacts would continue between the foreign and defense ministries and the presidential advisors on this issue."
Ushakov said that the situation in Syria was also discussed during the meeting and that Russia and the United States will continue their contacts on this issue.
Ukraine crisisUshakov said that the Ukraine crisis was discussed in the phone conversation and noted the following:
"Trump once again brought up the issue of ending military actions as soon as possible. Putin provided information about the implementation process of the agreements reached in the talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, stating that the Russian side was ready to continue the negotiation process. Putin stated that Russia would not give up on its goal of eliminating the root causes of the crisis."
Bilateral relationsUshakov said that relations between Russia and the USA were also discussed, and that there was interest in the implementation of some economic projects, especially in the fields of space research and energy.
