ÇANAKKALE IS IMPASSABLE (13)

The largest island in our country, formerly known as Imroz, known as Gökçeada. As with every island, transportation is provided by ferry. For Gökçeada, you need to go to the port in Kabatepe on the Gelibolu Peninsula. It is a bit more difficult to reach than Bozcaada. You can reach it with a ferry ride of around 1 hour and 15. There is 1 district center and 10 villages in Gökçeada. 5 of them are Greek villages: Dereköy, Tepeköy, Zeytinliköy, Eski Bademli and Kaleköy. The others are villages established during the Republic period. When you come to the island to visit, you should definitely see all the Greek villages. The stone houses smell of history. You should also try the appetizers such as cicirya and frappe, which are unique to Greek cuisine, in the villages.
At the same time, Gökçeada is a Cittaslow city, meaning a quiet city. It is also one of the richest islands in the world in terms of water resources.
It is a town that everyone knows from the movie Eyvah Eyvah or has started to hear more about. Geyikli, which is affiliated with Çanakkale Ezine, has started to rank high on the lists of Çanakkale lovers in recent years with its culture, food, accent and beach. Geyikli, which is also 5 km away from the Odunluk Pier where Bozcaada ferries depart, also has various accommodation options with its guesthouses or rental summer houses.
Alexandria Troas is an ancient city located within the borders of Dalyan Village, Geyikli Town of Ezine, Çanakkale. The area, which is very easy to reach, is approximately 65 km away from Çanakkale city center.
It all started with the death of Alexander the Great in Babylon. Since he had no heirs, his empire, which stretched from Macedonia to India, was divided among Alexander's commanders. Its founder was the commander Antigoneia. He gave his name to this place. Antigoneia forced the surrounding Neandria, Larissa, Hamaxitos, Kebren, Skepsis and other new settlers to migrate to this newly founded city. This migration was to create a city that was economically and strategically strong. It achieved its goal. However, later the city came under the control of another commander, Lysimachus. Its name was changed to Alexandria Troas in memory of Alexander the Great.
The Apollon Smintheus Sanctuary is located in Gülpınar, 94 km from Çanakkale. It is worth seeing with its temple, bath, Early Byzantine ruins, blacksmith workshop and church, St. Paulus and a part of the ancient road.
The stories told by the friezes that once adorned the temple in the small excavation house inside are extremely appropriate for the geography where the temple is located. These are scenes that we encounter in the Troy mythology. Apollo, who is the god who protects the Achaeans from the plague and skin sores, appears with the mouse cult. The immortalization of this with a temple is extremely important.
