Water-cheap building from the ministry

The claim that a 13-story, 52-apartment building belonging to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security was rented for a “very cheap” price was brought to the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. CHP Istanbul Deputy and Parliamentary Public Economic Enterprises Commission member Ali Gökçek emphasized that the rentals made on the Ankara Esenboğa Airport road and Pursaklar region for 88 thousand liras per month and 1 million 60 thousand liras per year caused public loss.
Gökçek noted that considering the location and size of the 13-storey building with four flats on each floor on Pursaklar Özal Boulevard, which belongs to the Security Education and Research Center Presidency affiliated with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the rent is very low.
Gökçek, who voiced the claim that this building was rented for 1 million 60 thousand liras per year on August 1, 2024, said, “It is unacceptable that a 13-storey and 52-apartment public building in the center of Ankara is rented for only 88 thousand TL per month.”
With this calculation, it was seen that the rental fee was 1692 lira per apartment. Gökçek said the following:
“The rental made for such a low price is a clear indication that public resources are not being used effectively and transparently. Did the ministry conduct a market research before this rental?”
Will the Minister launch an investigation? In the motion submitted to the TBMM, Minister Vedat Işıkhan was asked, "Will action be initiated to determine whether the public is harmed by the low rent amount? Are there any other rented real estates belonging to your ministry and what are the rental fees for these?"
