Smokers deal blow after blow! 'A cigarette price hike is on the way!'

Egehan Erkün - TELE1
Due to high inflation and the depreciation of the Turkish lira, Türkiye wakes up to news of a new price hike almost every day. Rising costs are leading to successive price hikes for goods and services.
In this context, following the increase in the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) levied on tobacco products, cigarette prices increased by 5 TL.
Following this increase, prices for two cigarettes and shredded tobacco belonging to the JTI group were increased further last night.
Erol Dündar, President of the Tekel Dealers Mutual Aid Association (TBYD), announced the news of the price increase with the phrase "Another price increase for the JTI group."
"JULY'S PRICE INCREASE IS AN 'INCOMPLETE' PRICE INCREASE"Speaking to Tele1.com.tr, Dündar explained that all companies are preparing for another massive price hike in August. Dündar stated that the 5 TL increase in cigarette prices in July, which was caused by the Special Consumption Tax (SCT), was "an incomplete increase."
"WE EXPECT A 5 TL INCREASE IN AUGUST"Dündar said, "The Special Consumption Tax (SCT) has increased, but companies haven't raised it by that amount. Instead of a one-time 10 TL increase, a 5 TL increase was made in July. Companies want to gradually adjust the increase. That's why we expect another 5 TL increase next month."
Dündar stated that the increase in alcoholic beverage prices in July was sufficient, adding, "We do not expect an increase in alcohol prices next month."
