Last-minute minimum wage interim raise expectation for 2025: Will the minimum wage be raised every six months, or will it be raised in July?

In a statement last month, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan emphasized that inflation was expected to decline, but if things went wrong, an interim increase could be considered in July. It was alleged that the issue of a six-month minimum wage increase was raised at the AKP's Kızılcahamam headquarters. While no official statement has been released, discussions about interim minimum wage increases have resurfaced. Normally, when the minimum wage is raised, representatives of the government, employers, and labor unions meet to determine the rate, taking into account inflation and many other criteria. It is known that no interim minimum wage increases are being planned for July. The minimum wage will be re-determined in 2026 with the new year.

Inflation fell to 5.03% in January 2025, 2.27% in February, 2.46% in March, 3% in April, 1.53% in May, and finally 1.37% in June. According to data for the first six months of this year, the raise received by civil servants and retired civil servants was 15.57% due to the collective bargaining agreement. Salaries from SSK, Bağ-Kur, and the Retirement Fund were also increased by 16.67%. The lowest pension was 16,881 lira, while the lowest civil servant salary, including additional payments, reached the 50,000 level.

Along with civil servant salaries, home care assistance, 65-year-old pension, disability pension, severance pay ceiling and paid military service fee have also changed. While the paid military service fee is 280 thousand 850 liras 64 kuruş, the home care salary increased to 11 thousand 702 TL following a 15.57 percent increase. The 65-year-old pension has also been updated with a 15.56 percent increase. With this increase rate, the 65-year-old pension, which was 4 thousand 664 liras in January 2025, became 5 thousand 390 liras as of July.
