CHP proposes a law for the İmamoğlu case!

The Republican People's Party submitted a bill to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to broadcast the trial process of the detained Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu live.

According to Cumhuriyet, the proposal called for public officials who were elected and put on trial to be tried openly so that voters who voted for them could receive accurate information about the incident.

Following the call made by CHP leader Özgür Özel for the trial process of the arrested Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu to be broadcast on TRT; CHP Group Deputy Chairs Murat Emir, Gökhan Günaydın and Ali Mahir Başarır submitted a bill to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey regarding the issue. The justification of the bill draws attention to the fact that voters should be informed about the right to trial of public officials they voted for, and states, “According to Article 141 of the Constitution, court hearings are open to everyone and can be watched by everyone. With this bill, citizens will have the opportunity to directly learn about the allegations and defenses of public officials they voted for and appointed to certain positions in the elections. In this way, misleading information reflected to the public regarding various investigations and prosecutions will also be prevented.”

The proposal also stated that the right to live trial was requested only for public officials who came to office through elections. The proposal, which stated that the decision to broadcast was given to the relevant court, included the following statements: “In cases carried out against those who hold an elected public office, with the request and consent of the defendant, victim and the person harmed by the crime, the relevant court may decide to broadcast the news on TRT or on the internet.”
