Spotify statement from the ministry

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Batuhan Mumcu said, "Despite having a significant user base in the Turkish market, Spotify has neither opened a representative office nor taken responsibility for the local music culture."

Mumcu said, "Our artists' inability to find interlocutors in digital media is a serious problem that needs to be resolved with constructive dialogue and concrete steps. Aside from not fulfilling tax obligations, prioritizing sensation over quality in content algorithms and highlighting content that encourages slang, violence and the use of banned substances is an unacceptable choice."

Mumcu made the following statement:

As the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, we always support our artists who produce quality music in Türkiye. However, it is imperative that digital platforms also share this sensitivity.

Fulfilling these responsibilities is of great importance in terms of cooperation and sustainability.
