The Ministry of Commerce is implementing new regulations in favor of consumers.

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Trade , issues regarding price tags, tariffs and price lists of goods and services offered for retail sale are regulated in the Consumer Protection Law No. 6502 and the Price Tag Regulation.
The Regulation, whose main purpose is to "regulate the form, content and use of labels, tariffs and price lists of goods and services offered for retail sale, as well as the procedures and principles regarding discounted sales", is important in terms of "protecting the economic interests" of consumers and "informing them accurately and completely".
Menus and price lists can also be displayed to consumers on tables via QR codes. It was emphasized that , considering the increasing consumer grievances and the needs of the sector, there was a need to amend the Price Tag Regulation and the following was stated:
"With the arrangements included in the draft Regulation opened for comment, it will be mandatory for the seller to weigh the package weights of the products sold in the presence of the consumer. Based on the principle of "Accuracy in Measurement and Weight," an Ahi tradition, the seller will weigh products offered for sale according to the consumer's request, and the tare weight, i.e., the reduction of packaging weight, will be clearly stated. This will ensure that consumers pay for the net amount of the products they purchase, thus protecting their economic interests. Menus and price lists can also be displayed to consumers via QR codes on tables in businesses that offer food and beverage services.
In addition to the practice of presenting physical menu lists and price lists in front of the doors and on the desktops of establishments such as restaurants, cafes, patisseries and similar establishments that offer food and beverage services, which started on January 1, 2024, the way to access menus using QR codes on the desktop has now been made available, thus providing convenience for both consumers and businesses.
Businesses that offer food and beverage services, the criteria of which are determined by the Ministry of Commerce , will be able to transfer their price lists to the system determined by the Ministry of Commerce.
It is aimed to establish a system that will enable consumers to easily compare the prices of services offered by businesses such as restaurants, cafes and similar establishments by publishing their price lists on the internet.
It is aimed to inform consumers accurately and completely. In addition to the price tag, sellers of products such as books and magazines are also provided with the convenience of using electronic devices.
By introducing the possibility of using electronic devices such as "see price" along with price tags for businesses selling books, magazines and newspapers, the aim is to ensure the sector adapts to developing technology and to provide accurate and complete information to consumers.
The Ministry of Trade, operating with a producer- and consumer-focused approach, will continue to implement new regulations for informational and implementation purposes. After consulting with relevant institutions regarding the Price Label Regulation, the necessary final assessments will be made expeditiously, and the relevant Regulation will be submitted for official approval.
